Best Practices

A few habits that make detection sharper and services smoother.

Audio setup

• Feed Scrivent the preacher's dedicated mic, not a distant room mic.
• Run the input-level test before the service and confirm the meter moves on speech.
• Leave echo cancellation on in rooms with stage monitors or a live PA.

During a service

• Start in Manual mode for high-stakes services; switch to Auto once you're comfortable.
• Pre-load known readings into the plan so you can step through them with the arrow keys.
• Keep a hand on B (black) and Esc (clear) to take the screen down instantly when needed.

Theme & readability

• Choose a high-contrast theme and a font size readable from the back row.
• Preview on the actual projector before the congregation arrives — screens vary.

Network & performance

• Transcription needs a steady internet connection; use wired ethernet on the operator machine where possible.
• Watch the connection indicator — if it drops, detection pauses until it reconnects.
• Close other heavy apps on the operator machine so audio capture stays smooth.
