Scripture Detection

How Scrivent decides which verse you meant — and how you stay in control of what shows.

Match types

TypeTriggered by
Exact referenceA spoken or written reference, e.g. "Romans 8:28".
Exact textA verbatim or near-verbatim quote of the verse.
Full-textA strong keyword overlap with a verse.
SemanticA paraphrase matched by meaning using embeddings.

How results appear

Each detection shows the matched verse along with its match type and a confidence percentage, so you can see at a glance whether it was an exact reference or an AI paraphrase match.

Confidence scores

Every candidate carries a confidence score. Low-confidence matches are filtered out automatically so the wrong verse doesn't reach the screen — exact references score highest, paraphrase matches a little lower. In Manual mode you make the final call regardless of score.

Auto vs Manual mode

  • Auto — detections go straight to the live display. Best once you trust the setup.
  • Manual — detections are staged as candidates; the operator reviews each one and pushes it live (or skips it). Best for high-stakes services.

Switch modes any time from the console; the change syncs to other operators on the session.

Pushing verses manually

You don't have to rely on detection. Use the Scripture Planner to build a list of verses before the service and step through them with next/previous, or push any verse directly to the screen.

Translations

Scrivent ships with 15 English translations. Pick yours from the console — detection runs the same way whichever you choose, and the verse is shown in your selected translation.

  • Modern English — Berean Standard Bible (BSB), Free Bible Version (FBV), World English Bible (WEB), New Heart English Bible (NHEB), Lexham English Bible (LEB), Modern King James Version (MKJV), Bible in Basic English (BBE).
  • Traditional & historic — King James Version (KJV), American Standard Version (ASV), Young's Literal Translation (YLT), Darby, Geneva Bible 1599, Webster's, American King James Version (AKJV), Wycliffe.

If your congregation finds the KJV heavy going, FBV and BSB are the most readable of the set.

Copyrighted translations such as the NIV, NLT and ESV require a paid licence from their publishers and aren't included.
