How to show Spanish Bible verses on your church screen
For bilingual English–Spanish services: both languages on screen, the moment the verse is quoted.
Spanish and English, on one screen
Scrivent listens to the sermon, finds each Bible verse the preacher quotes, and puts it on the projector, the livestream and members’ phones. Choose Spanish as the second language and the same verse appears in Spanish directly under the English. Bilingual churches can preach in English and keep Spanish readers with every verse, or the other way round.
What it looks like
John 3:16, as the screen shows it in Spanish:
Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado á su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.
And Psalm 23:1: Salmo de David. JEHOVÁ es mi pastor; nada me faltará.
Where Spanish is read
Spanish is read in churches across Latin America, Spain, Equatorial Guinea and the many Hispanic congregations in the United States.
Which Spanish Bible this is
This is the Reina-Valera 1909, the public-domain ancestor of the Reina-Valera 1960. The 1960 revision most churches read is copyrighted by the Bible Societies and needs their licence, so it is not included; the 1909 wording is close to it, with some older spellings (such as “á” for “a”).
Twelve chapters are left out, because this edition numbers their verses differently from the English Bibles: Numbers 12 and 29, 1 Samuel 23, 2 Samuel 20, 2 Chronicles 33, Job 35, 38 and 40, Hosea 11, Jonah 1, Acts 19 and 2 Corinthians 13. In those chapters the screen shows the English verse only.
How to switch it on
- Open the console. In the Bible list on the left, keep your English Bible (KJV, BSB, WEB and 15 more).
- Open + No second language above the screens and choose Español (RV1909).
- Push any verse and look at the projector: English on top, Spanish underneath. Members following on their phones see both too.
Prefer Spanish alone? Pick it in the Bible list as the main translation and leave the second language empty.
Can the pastor preach in Spanish?
Being honest: automatic detection listens for English. A verse quoted in English, even in the middle of a sermon in Spanish, is caught and shown in both languages. A verse spoken only in Spanish is not detected yet, because live speech recognition is not reliable enough in it today. The operator can still find any verse in the Bible browser and push it by hand, in Spanish and English together.
